The third sector plays a vital role in the development of Britain
Subhash V. Thakrar, Senior Partner, CBW; current Vice-President and former Chairman, London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) talks about the third sector. The third sector plays a vital role in the development of Britain and the wider world. Many donors want to reward the best charities with the biggest accomplishments. They want to give money. But they may not know who to give to. They want greater transparency, to see the best charities showcased and to support others which need assistance.
Recent research by New Philanthropy Capital, one of Charity Clarity’s partners, showed that more than one in three people have doubts about charities. 20% of people said, when they didn’t know much about the charities, they had little trust. But the more people know charities, the more they tend to trust them – 69% of those who knew a lot or “a fair amount” had high or medium trust in them. We found the same in our own survey of young Asians.
The first way of tackling this issue is Charity Clarity, a tool which rates charities out of 5-stars, highlights the best on its website, and supports others to improve. Its aim is to measure the impact of charities so that donors can get the right information about where their money is going, and charities can showcase their good work.
The second are the inaugural Charity Awards. They offer much-needed publicity and support to charities that do wonderful work in Britain and abroad. We hope the winners will gain international recognition, helping them grow and allowing them to increase the impact of their work. Please join us in a journey to empower donors and support charities.
